Happy February!

with this being the first week of a new month....it is time to think about your goals for this month and reflect over business learnings from last month! last month came the tools we, as etsians, have been waiting for a long, long time....google analytics. so much important information, now placed in our hands, to help us manage our businesses better!

going forward....i'm going to {loosely} commit, to blogging about a google report each week....in hopes of helping others understand what they can do with that report, and how to apply it in a way to better your business. afterall, if we can't use the tools, what is the point in having them, right? please be sure to leave comments on best practices, and maybe some insight on how you use the tools for your business so that we can share our collective knowledge!

with the new month...came a new look for the gaudy goddess. i have a new banner and a new avi for etsy....definitely a lighter, springtime look about the shoppe! please check it out at your convenience and leave me feedback when you can!

here's to a happy, sales filled February! many blessings, deborah

Etsy Street Team HOST!!!

over the holidays, i was reacquainted with a fabulous street team on etsy named HOST. HOST stands for 'helping others street team' and the focus of the team is to really support other etsy artists through trying times. they have a great store at www.host.etsy.com where you will find an array of items donated by other etsians and proceeds go to help those in need. they are a fun group of very giving souls. i'm proud to say that i am a member of such a fabulous team full of so many talented artisans. this beautiful scarf can be found there....donated from fringe.

these beautiful red barrettes from motherofjackals

and the peach dahlia from artbysusmitha

take a break and go check out the team store....they do such great work for so many!

Happy 2009!

okay, with 2oo9 comes all sorts of new goals. obviously, blogging should be high on my priorities, as well as my focus refined when tackling the createability team etsy, that i started prior to the holidays. first of all lets sum up 2008!

2008 started off with me being a lazy butt! we didn't have a car, so i really felt like i couldn't get anything done! i started my site in February and it really had a slow start! i continued to do treatment all through the year. in june, i started doing home shows and had a huge wholesale order with a shop in brookside. homeshows proved to be very effective, and i think i did 6 or 7 before the year was over! in october i did a trunk show at a local shop~that was a blast, and made me miss working retail just a smidge. not alot....but a little. i did have to sit the entire time, and it was exhausting but fun, nonetheless! also in october, i answered a call to form the createability team. it's a team on etsy who's members are disabled, or are caregivers of someone who is disabled. we have a strong group in numbers, but we are ready to tackle 'o9 with some events to really promote and support the members! christmas on etsy was busy and alot of fun! i, of course, have no ly numbers to compare it to, but i stayed busy enough and it seemed alittle overwhelming as i drew closer to medical tests and such. i really found it hard to focus on the shop with results looming! really the first time i've experienced that...

the test results came back, and were very good. the area in my lung and 2 of the 3 lymph nodes that were previously showing metabolic activity, did not show activity. so, just one lymph node misbehaving! so, that too was really really great!

so, with all that behind me....its time to set some goals for 2oo9!
~blog at least three times a week, on both blogs.
~create an easy inventory system for completed projects
~load calender with markets, and shows
~list something new in all three shops daily
~get ophelias apothecary up and running
~create a planning schedule and stick to it!
~create a marketing plan
~get workspace organized and set up a maintenance schedule to ensure that it stays organized.
~use one of my many planners....i buy them, lose them, and never use them! let's change that habit!

so, to sum it up....get organized, stay organized, and have fun. this will be my battlecry for the year!

what are your goals? do you make selling goals for yourself? once you hit your anniversary of business start up, that is really an important thing, if you are striving to grow your business. what are your personal goals? the business is only going to be as successful as you make it! look forward to blogs this week of how i go through this process for helpful tips that you can take to your business!

Teamwork and Bonding on Etsy!!!

you all know by now, that i absolutely love working on etsy. it really has become a full~time job for me and extends way beyond just creating my artsy smartsy jewelry or scentsational lotions and potions. this weekend, i joined a forum thread where i met other artists with disabilities. one thing that this thread reinforced for me, is that the definition of disabled certainly has many different meanings to many different people. i, for one, have always had a problem wearing the "label" disabeld, as most non~disabled people really seem to have a negative connotation related to it. in this thread, i found alot of friends who are feeling empowered and determined to take back control of the terms and associations with said "label."

Out of this thread came more than several Etsy Shops who are interested in forming an Official Etsy Street Team with those common goals in mind. We want to show that we are effective business leaders on Etsy, and find encouragement and empowerment in our numbers. No other street team has been formed, to date, with having disabilities, {or caregivers}, as a commonality. We are hoping to really reverse the stereotypes and find encouragement within our Etsy community.

I am so excited to be in on this team from its conception. Etsy is known for having quite talented artists, and these friends i've made over the weekend are no exception! to the left, you will find a poll for choosing a team name. there were other listed, but these seem to be the top picks from all that were listed. please comment if you want to add any others to the list, and we will try to settle on a name by Thursday....so that our request can be submitted by the weekend! thanks so much for all you do!

many blessings, deborah

obama or mccain.......

well...that, afterall, seems to be the question {or topic of discussion} everywhere these days. i will be so incredibly happy when my candidate wins, and all this political crap will be over for awhile. i watched the fourth, and final debate tonight...and clearly, these debates aren't really about a winner and a loser....as, each party always finds that their candidate came out on top...but i must say that this year's election jargon has been one of the messiest ever. i wish they could stick to topics at hand and stop mudslinging for two seconds...to actually get something accomplished. unfortunately, i find most politics just that...a he said/he said sorted tale where nothing actually gets resolved. kinda sad, but somewhat true.

well, i definately made my goal of blogging everyday....even though todays content is, well, crap! but nontheless...the issue on my mind at the moment! i promise to bring you something cool tomorrow....i will leave you with this little etsy find!
it made me laugh...and i thought it was cool!
